Spring is here! And with it, three major sporting events will bring visitors to Bairnsdale in the lead-up to Christmas.

The City will host the Simon Anderson Consultants 2018 Masters Road National Championships, the Barry Sheene Tribute Ride and the Bairnsdale Racing Club Spring Carnival.

Why is sports tourism important to you?

The average spend through ‘sports tourism’ is $265 per person per day. This is good for business and it’s good for Bairnsdale.

All Bairnsdale traders are invited to attend FREE visual merchandise training, sponsored by the East Gippsland Shire Council, in association with Bairnsdale Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Federation Training and Paynesville Neighbourhood Centre.

Learn new ways to:

• Design and style visual merchandising and promote local events to increase consumer spend.
• Collaborate with other traders to encourage shoppers to buy local instead of online.
• Enhance community spirit to continue to make Bairnsdale a vibrant town.
• Develop a shared vision for lifting Bairnsdale’s festive spirit in the lead-up to Christmas.
And learn the financial benefits of bringing more customers to our region.

How to register:
There are limited places available, so book early. Call Paynesville Neighbourhood Centre on 5156 0214 or email

Complimentary refreshments are provided. (Please advise if you have any special dietary requirements.)

Simon Anderson Consultants Masters Road Nationals 2018

The BCCI has been contacted by the organisers of the upcoming 2018 Cycling Australia Road Masters National Championships on behalf of Cycling Victoria.

This event is being sponsored by Simon Anderson Consultants and is anticipated to attract 600 entrants, as well as accompanying family members and friends who will be converging on our region between Thursday 18/10 to Sunday 21/10. The main event taking place in Paynesville on Sunday the 21st October.

To ensure that local businesses maximise the opportunity for tourism during this event, we encourage you to get involved with the promotion of this event and consider providing a ‘special offer’ or ‘discount voucher’ or other benefit for the expected 600 entrants.

A list of local businesses offering a special discount to entrants participating in the Masters National Championships will be included in each entrants’ Registration Pack. By way of example, local businesses could provide a special offer of 10% discount for entrants, or a free coffee or drink with any cake or meal purchase.

Once again, we expect many visitors to the East Gippsland region during the following dates: October 18th, 19th, 20th & 21st. If you have a cafe, coffee shop or restaurant in town, please ensure you are open early to cater for entrants. Further information and promotion of this event can be seen on Cycling Maven’s vlogs, a cycling enthusiast who has a very large YouTube following and contains information on the region.

These vlogs will entice participants to enter the event and perhaps stay a little longer to explore the region, if not at the time of this event, then it will certainly assist with return visitation. For your information the vlog titled “So, THIS happened!” shows the Paynesville and Raymond Island area.

The demographic for this event is the largest of the cycling community, 30yo’s and over, most with disposable income and therefore provides a great opportunity for locals to promote their businesses.

If you would like to be involved, promote your business and can provide any type of special offer for participants to be included in their cycling Registration Packs, please let us know as soon as possible via Matt Henderson, Secretary @ so this information can be passed onto the event organisers.
